Artisian Crafted USA

Lemon Balm - Melissa officinalis

Distillation date: Summer 2011

PH: 4.7

Very stable lasting well over 2 years

The aroma of Lemon balm hydrosol is light with a floral note, with an unusual edge to its scent like cooked artichokes.  It tastes lemony and spicy.  Very delightful.  Susanne Catty states that the hydrosol is calming to the body but without being overly sedative. She also suggests using with children and adults with ADHD using 30 mls in 1 liter of water; consume throughout the day.  For adults, double the dosage.

Some of the traditional uses are:

  • Stress, anxiety and good with children
  • Has positive results for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
  • Morning Sickness
  • Digestive upsets
  • Reduces spasms and cramps associated with colitis and Crohn's disease
  • Water retention
  • Antioxidant
  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Skin clarifier
  • Calms rashes, irritations, and eczema
  • Poison oak or poison ivy:  Spray on immediately
  • Tonic for general well being
  • Immune stimulant

According to Suzanne Catty, Lemon balm is gentle enough to use on babies. Mix with German Chamomile or Yarrow hydrosol for cradle cap and diaper rash.

Safety: It has some effect in lowering blood pressure.  Use with caution on a long term basis if hypotensive.

Shipped in sterilized glass bottles.  Best if stored in a cool dark place when not in use.
