About
Aromatics International's Vanilla Oleoresin is produced in Madagascar. The production of Vanilla Oleoresin involves an alcohol extraction of Vanilla beans, followed by removal of the alcohol by distillation in a vacuum. The oleoresin remaining after alcohol evaporation is a dark, luscious brown and is thicker then honey. Vanilla Oleoresin is very concentrated and is also much thicker then a pure absolute.
This thick, syrupy Vanilla Oleoresin will not consider diluting itself in jojoba or most other carriers! We tried all sorts of approaches to diluting it, because we adore the aroma, and came up with just one success! It will blend into our lotion.
We used a glass stir rod and got a large dollop of the Vanilla on the tip and swirled it into our unscented lotion. After mixing gently and swirling the stir rod against the edge of the jar for a minute we had a dark, Vanilla scented lotion. We then added other essential oils to the Vanilla lotion (we used Lime and Sandalwood but of course this is personal preference). Heaven!
How many dollops of Vanilla for your blends? We used several big dollops for an ounce of lotion.
In using the Vanilla Oleoresin one can be more exact by warming the Vanilla up in a warm water bath. Use any pot on the stove, add a small amount of water and bring to a gentle boil. Place your whole glass jar of Vanilla into the water, with the cap on, and allow it to melt. This only takes a minute, or less, so please stand by the stove and remove it from the warm bath once it is liquefied. This process allows you to get closer to the idea of measuring drops! When using the warming technique, we used about 10-12 drops of Vanilla per ounce of carrier.
The Vanilla Oleoresin comes in a small glass jar. If you buy the 1/2 oz size the jar is about 1/3 full. If you buy the 1 oz size, the jar is about 2/3 full. This gives you room to work with it. We did not use a bottle with an orifice reduces as the oleoresin is much too thick to pour out of an orifice reducer.
The appeal of this gorgeous Vanilla aroma has us dedicated to using it even though it is totally different than working with essential oils. We also put a small dab of the Vanilla on the tip of our fingers and use it as a perfume!
Enjoy the rich and exotic beauty of your Madagascan Vanilla Oleoresin!
