Clay - French Green

French Green Clay is a beautiful light green/gray clay filled with mineral/iron oxides including montmorillonite and lots of decomposed plant material and algae. It is also called "sea clay" for good reason.  French Green Clay is very rich and this particular clay comes from France where one of the largest clay fields exist. They mine it from way under the ground and it is 100% natural without added ingredients.  There are several places in the United States that also mine French Green Clay.

Traditional experience shows when used on the skin, the clay absorbs the toxins, dead skin and oily substances, increasing blood flow to the epidermis.  It tightens the pores, revitalizing the complexion.

Other external uses are:

  • Use as a poultice on a boil or other skin issue.  Make a thick paste, let it set for a few hours and then apply to the area of concern about 1/4 of an inch thick.  Wrap with gauze to keep in place allowing it to "work" for up to 2 hours.  If the area is too painful to apply directly, then apply the paste to the guaze and wrap around the area.
  • Facial mask - no more than once a week as it can be drying.   Mask turns a bright green.
  • Mineral bath for arthritis and muscle pain or skin irritation-  Add 1/2 cup to a warm/hot bath.

Make a mask:  To 1 Tablespoon of clay add a small amount of water to desired consistency.  It should be thick enough to spread easily.  Other additions you might consider:

  • 1 drop of essential oil such as Rose or Geranium.
  • 1 tsp Honey for dry skin
  • 1 tsp cream for dry skin
  • 1-2 tsp of carrier oil for dry skin
  • 1 Tbs. Yogurt for normal skin
  • Substitute hydrosol for the water.
  • 1/2 - 1 tsp Cider Vinegar for oily skin.

Mix your ingredients together to form a smooth paste.  Apply with fingertips to face and neck avoiding eyes.  Leave on for 10-15 minutes.  Masks are very individualized for each persons needs.  If left on too long, redness could occur but should disappear in a half hour.

Get creative and mix clays together.

This clay should be avoided with sensitive skin.
