Petitgrain (Bigarade) - Citrus aurantium var. amara or Bigaradia

The most pronounced uses of Petitgrain are for reducing spasms, calming the nervous system, and bringing an emotionally balancing and uplifting effect. This oil blends beautifully with Bergamot, Orange and Roman Chamomile for reducing the pain and spasms from irritable bowl syndrome. We also use it at night for a calm sleep and to reduce stress.

Personal Experience, Research, Possible Actions

The aroma reminds us of fresh leaves after the rain. It is made from the leaves of the bitter orange tree (neroli and bitter orange are also made from this same tree--Neroli from the flowers and Bitter Orange from the rind of the fruit).

We like to blend it with all citrus oils to enhance its antispasmodic effects and create a beautiful aromatic blend. Petitgrain is the perfect oil for a refreshing room or body spray. It is cooling, uplifting and and even deodorizing!
